Acme Wire Products was founded by Edward Planeta, Sr. 1970 in Norwich, CT, specializing in custom formed and welded wire components. In 1979, Acme Wire Products expanded to a larger 75,000 sq. ft. facility in Mystic, CT to better meet customer needs, providing sturdy, close tolerance parts of steel and stainless steel with consistent dimensional quality customized to each customer’s requirements. A second generation family business, Acme Wire Products has been managed since 2000 by sibling team Mary, Michael, and Ed, combining over 100 years of wire fabrication industry expertise.

Our Leadership Team

Mary Fitzgerald

President

Mary has been at Acme Wire Products for over 40 years, both in Marketing and as company President. Her previous experiences at Durable Wire gave her a breadth of knowledge of the wire industry. She is a former board member of CBIA and is a current board member of PMA – Precision Metalforming Association and EAMA – Eastern Advanced Manufacturing Alliance. She is the originator and coordinator of the EAMA Video Challenge, a program spreading manufacturing career awareness to high school students and local communities. Mary is also actively involved in the leadership team of the Connecticut Chapter of Women in Manufacturing and serves on the Business Advisory Council at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Michael Planeta

Vice President, Manufacturing

Michael Planeta leads the manufacturing, tooling, quality, and purchasing departments at Acme Wire Products. He has worked for the company in various capacities for more than 35 years. His previous experiences were as an analyst for Arthur Anderson. Michael is a past President and Board Member of the Wire Fabricators Association and is a Board Member and Officer of the Mystic YMCA. He is an active member of the parish council at Sacred Heart Church in Groton, CT.

Ed Planeta has been at Acme Wire Products for over 25 years. He brings his experiences running small businesses to Acme Wire Products. Ed travels extensively throughout the United States, spreading the gospel of wire fabrication. Call Ed and he will be happy to visit you to review your fabricated wire product needs. He is also involved in Stonington Economic Development Commission in the Town of Stonington and supports various local charities focused on providing secure and safe housing opportunities in the region. Ed’s hobbies include hiking adventures around the world.
