Montville, CT – Even before the newly formed Montville Lacrosse program holds its first practice, it has already scored a win with it’s recent receipt of 24 brand new Cascade CPXR lacrosse helmets. Acme Wire Products Co., Inc. of Mystic, CT donated the helmets to the school.

Acme Wire Products, Co., Inc., a local custom fabricator of precision wire components, manufactures the wire facemasks used in Cascade helmets. Acme Wire Products President, Mary Fitzgerald commented, “Acme Wire Products is proud to be the primary facemask provider to the largest lacrosse helmet manufacturer on the market and we wanted to support the local community through this donation.”

Acme Wire Products has manufactured over 1.5 million facemasks for lacrosse and other applications. The company started the helmet donation program 15 years ago as a way to expand the awareness of the sport of lacrosse as well as provide students from local high schools with the opportunity to participate in lacrosse.

The lacrosse club in Montville is approved by the high school as a team sport yet receives no funding from the school. Players are responsible for providing their own equipment which includes helmets, sticks, gloves, shoulder pads & arm pads. Helmets are one of the most necessary, yet costliest pieces of equipment. Fitzgerald said that the value of the donation exceeded $4000.00 and the helmets will become property of the school.

Acme Wire Products also manufactures engineered wire products for a variety of other specialty applications, including hospital equipment, food processing machinery, premise wiring equipment and material handling systems and customized guarding using steel and stainless steel wire and sheet metal. Michael Doherty, Vice President of Montville Lacrosse indicated that about 50 high school students have already signed up for either the girls or boys teams. The first practice will be held on March 18th and the first game is tentatively scheduled for April 4th. The Montville Youth Lacrosse programs are still accepting registrations and additional signups are scheduled for March 9th and March 16th from 9 AM to 1 PM at Fair Oaks School.
